Space debris from 1957 till today.

02/16/2016

As a tour guide at Kennedy Space Center for Florida Dolphin Tours, Inc. in Orlando, Florida. One of the biggest questions I get is. What happens to all the space Debris from all the rocket launches throughout history? There are almost 20,000 pieces of space debris circling our planet ever since the first artificial satellite Sputnik was launched in 1957. This video presentation was created by a University of London lecturer, Dr. Stuart Grey. He is part of the Space Geodesy and Navigation Library. And it shows the amount of space debris accumulated in the time frame. With everything from simple satellites to the behemoth ISS launching hardware is out there and always poses a potential disaster to the Astronauts and Cosmonauts as they do their daily diligence for the furthering of man kinds understanding about life in Low Earth orbit or eventually the return to Deep Space.
